How checks work

A check asks ChatGPT every buyer question in your project and reads the answers. All the numbers in Vedor come from the newest check of each question.

What happens in a check

  • Each question is asked on chatgpt.com, the way a buyer would, and also directly with web search. All of these are ChatGPT and are pooled into one result.
  • ChatGPT's answer changes from try to try, so a question can be asked several times in one check. "Named in 3 of 5 tries" means 3 of those 5 answers named you.
  • Each answer is read for the brands it names (in order), how it describes each one (tone), and the sites it cites.
  • Recommendations are updated from the new answers when the check finishes.

Start a check

  1. Go to Home → Overview and click Check now.
  2. A progress box shows how many answers are in and how often you are named so far. You can leave the page.
  3. When the check is done, the page refreshes and the bell (top right) lists it under Recently finished.

To check a single question, go to Visibility → ChatGPT questions and click Check again (the refresh icon) on its row. New and edited questions are checked as soon as you save them.

Scheduled checks

Paid plans include automatic checks that use no credits:

  • Pro: once a week.
  • Business: twice a week.
  • Free: no scheduled checks; use Check now.

After you mark a recommendation done, or publish an article to your connected website from AI Writer, its questions are asked again 7 and 21 days later, free. The recommendation or article then shows Did it work?: how many answers named you before and after.

Gotchas

  • Check now costs credits for every answer, so a full check costs more the more questions you track. If a check would go over your monthly credits, it doesn't start. See Plans, credits and billing.
  • A check takes a few minutes. The very first one can take up to 45 minutes to finish completely, though first results show sooner.
  • Only one check runs per project at a time. Questions added while a check runs are asked in the next one.
  • The visibility number shows a ± range: answers vary, so the true share is likely within it.
  • Brand lists you edit (tracking or hiding competitors) don't need a new check. They only relabel answers you already have.
